Summer Essentials ft. AUrate New York!

Fashion, Lifestyle

Hello everyone! The start of May signals the rapid approach of summer. With events like Coachella and other music festivals in season, it’s hard not to get excited about summer! Today I wanted to share with you my personal summer essentials. I have been lucky enough to partner up with AUrate New York, a direct-to-consumer fine jewelry brand.

Here’s a little bit about the company; they provide conflict free gold to consumers like you and me at honest prices. It’s the best of both worlds, high quality jewelry at the best possible prices. Everything they make is absolutely gorgeous! Even better, for every piece sold, a book is donated to an economically underprivileged child in need. As someone who loves reading with a passion, I cannot help but support AUrate.

Enough about that! Let’s jump right into my summer essentials!

Alluring Aviators

Absolutely, hands-down we all need sunglasses. Might as well have fun with it! Reflective sunnies are totally in right now and I’m loving it. I choose this picture in particular because the look really frames and draws attention to the face. A messy bun to keep the sweat off out necks, simple earrings, and a fun pair of aviators. What a look!

Now I did mention earrings which leads me into my next essential.

Dainty Earrings

I literally live for a nice delicate pair of earrings! I’ve been squealing over this pair from AUrate. Pearls are a forever classic that every young lady should treasure in her closet and something about gold draws attention. Not to mention, it goes with every outfit. That being said, I guess you can say that dainty earrings are a closet staple. But with summer quickly approaching, now’s the perfect time to tie back you hair and show off a pair!

Silky Slides

When Rihanna came out with those pink slides, it felt as if the whole world was watching. As sure enough, they were because in the following weeks they were everywhere! I picked out this pair of navy Zara slides because they are so elegant yet effortless. I love slides for the fact that I can just throw them on and go. They are perfect from going shopping to walking to the mailbox! Honestly they are so comfortable, I feel 100% safe inwrapping these to the beach or an amusement park where I’ll be doing a lot of walking.

Ruffles, Embroidery, and Print (Oh my)!

Oh my is right, there is just so much to say. First off, summer dresses are a must have, a closet staple, a basic. This season I’ve been seeing a lot of ruffles and I’m happy to say, they’re here to stay. They are just so fun and perfect for summer. I can’t wait to wear one to the beach and watch the wind blow through them.  Now I’m also going to hop on the bandwagon and throw embroidery in here. I think it’s the little details that matter and a little embroidery here and there is perfect. Finally we have prints. I chose this Zara dress (btw the rest are also Zara) because it takes a spin on the classic tropical floral print and turns it into something fresh.

Imagine wearing one of these pieces. To balance out the top I suggest pairing them with simple necklaces such as a long dainty chain with a simple pendant.

It’s all about the details- Necklaces

This Circle Necklace by AUrate is perfect to pair. It is 14K gold plated over sterling silver. I just love the way it looks with a v-neck. It’s light, yet makes a bold statement. During summer months, you wan to wear as little clothing as possible, thus every piece has to add something to the outfit. This is perfect!

Totes Totally

While traveling in the Caribbean I’ve always seen these woven bags on the Islands and though they were such a look. This Zara bag, decorated with pompoms is probably the cutest thing I’ve seen. I think this bag is a good size to carry sunscreen, water bottles, and other essentials for the summer. Might as well as do it in style!

Which essential was your favorite? Let me know in the comments down below! Be sure to also check out AUrate at ! Thanks for everything!

As Promised, I’m back with another post! I don’t have to too much to say so let’s jump right into it!

1. Patent leather boots ✨

These are my everything! Since they’re black they go with every outfit, but they add a touch of badass to every look! Plus they were on sale! These are from F21!

2. Mini LV Backpack ✨

This has been my go-to bag for the past couple of week. It’s small enough to be able to carry the basics and nothing more. That’s perfect for me, who can be a bit of a hoarder.

3. Blush Fur Coat ✨

Peep my patent leather boots in this picture! Anyways, I have been lusting after a fur coat for months. Every blogger and their mother has a cheetah print one. But given, I’m a less adventurous girl, I went for this pale, blush coat. It’s so warm and cozy, the only thing is I wish it zippered and had pockets. Btw, this is from F21.

4. milk and honey

Never did I think a book could change my life… milk an honey is chicken noodle soup for every girls’ soul. Read it, please.

5. SZA- Drew Barrymore

This song has been my national anthem for a couple of weeks now. It’s kind of about being in a controlling relationship and how one loses themself. I was once in the same position and this song reminds me of all the things I wish I could’ve said….  yeah.

Thanks guys!

Fashion & Acessories

1. Berets

So, my first favorite is a cult classic! Berets are so fun to style, they make any outfit adorable! Imagine this paired with a cute pair of stockings and boots. They’re literally a perfect hat for fall.

2. Knee High Boots

Hands down, these are my most worn item this season! I’m wearing at least four times a week. I feel like cinderella in these. Paired with a beret, you’re unstoppable!

3. Brown leather jacket

Usually I always lean towards black. But this fall, I’ve been experimenting with warm tones as you can see by my instagram(@ash.leey). I really love this jacket on warmer days. Plus, I really love the style of this one. I wish it came in black or grey!

4. Sock Ankle Boots

For the past couple of weeks, it’s seemed like everyone had these except me. Now that I’ve a proud owner, I definitely don’t regret this purchase. My pair is from Aldo amd they were around $60. Lately I’ve been making a point to invest in good shoes! These fit the bill perfectly!

5. Band Tees

Such an easy piece to style! They’re cool and make me feel so hardcore. ‘Nuff said!

Makeup & Skincare

1. Makeup Revolution Iconic 3 Palette

I have a newfound love for this palette! I absolutely adore rose gold and this palette is basically a dupe for the naked 3 one!

2. Maybelline Dream Velvet Foundation

All month I’ve been reaching for this. It keeps me matte for most of the day and provides full to medium coverage! I’ve also been using a lighter shade as concealer.

I definitely have more skincare favorites, however I plan on saving them for a skincare routine post!

1. Childish Gambino

Recently Childish Gambino came out with two new songs and I love relaxing, jamming out to them! Check him out!

Travel Diaries: Summer Honors Institute at LIU Post

This summer, I was accepted into the Sumer Honors Institute at Long Island University. Throughout the week, I explored the various areas of fasion merchandising. This is my travel diary from my time there!

Day 1 & 2

So it’s day two at LIUSHI. With all the running around yesterday, I hardly had a chance to stop and write. Initially I had a lot of anxiety, but as soon as I walked on campus I received such a warm welcoming. The other students kept stopping to say hi and the staff was super friendly. I met my roommate who later that night moved out due to a mishap. However, after my parents left, the anxiety returned. There wasn’t really anything planned since check in would continue for a another couple of hours. After awhile I decided to check out the student boutique since I would be spending most of time throughout the week there. Thankfully I ran into another fashion merchandising student and we kinda joined forces to explore the campus. Two hours later I met a couple more girls taking the same classes and we hit it off really well. It’s really cool to meet people who are truly into fashion like I am and not just shopping at typical teenage stores like Hollister or Pink. We got to go to an ice cream social. I have been absolutely obsessed with ice cream with rainbow sprinkles this month so I was in heaven! During icebreaker games, I finally met the entire group and got to know what everyone. Things got really wild that night while playing manhunt! I ended going to sleep pretty early compared to everyone else since I was up really early that day.

Day two has been so great. Everything that we’ve done has been so much fun. After going around in a circle talking about the what got us interested in fashion and our favorite stores, we got into three teams of four for our first challenge. Honestly with all the challenges I felt like I was on Project Runway! What a dream come true! Our challenge was to go around campus and find the best dressed for business and casual and the best shoes. Unfortunately, there weren’t a lot of people on campus since many groups went into the city, so my group didn’t really find anyone. We returned and presented what we found. Next we watched two TED Talks. The first one was called “Forget Shopping, soon you’ll Download Your New Clothes”. It was the perfect introduction to tomorrow‘s trip the the Met and digital printing. I wasn’t able to catch the name of the second video, but it was basically about how fashion thrives on change. Both were inspiring. Next came the fun part. We broke into teams again and did another challenge. This time the challenge was to put together a piece project runway style with scraps. Once again, our team struggled but it was still fun! Next, we started on our final project. The idea is to put together and window display and inspiration board based around a theme. Ours was ‘Blushing In Lace”. My group was really inspired by this blue lace two piece and decided to use royal blue as an accent color next to blush. It was nice to feel like a college student for awhile; working on our Pinterest boards and have lunch. We went back to our dorm and got a text from our group leader telling us to come back for pizza. I remember being really mad at myself for buying food when there was free pizza. Later that night we were forced to go watch Batman vs Superman. We ended up leaving since it was too cold and such a bad movie. I thought the rest of my night would be quiet and relaxing, but around 12, my friends knocked on my door asking me to come hang out in their room. I left around 2, and got like 5 hours of sleep. I’m still really tired as I’m typing this.

Because I was so tired, I missed the wake up call and had to rush to get ready. After a quick breakfast, we were on a bus to the city. First thing, we checked out the Manus x Machina exhibit at the Met. Absolutely stunning. Words can’t possibly describe it. We got to meet a curator and a conservationist who were both really interesting. Then we went onto shopping. I picked up a really cool bomber jacket on sale from Zara. Last we stopped by a store that sells fashion magazines from around the world for our final project.
It’s day 3 and it feels like I’ve been here for a week. This morning we went shopping since the designer we were supposed to visit cancelled last minute on us. Then we stopped for lunch at shake shack which wasn’t so nice just because we were literally sweating outside. Then we stopped at Frank Cassata Designs. Basically Frank’s is where companies such as Tommy Hilfiger and IZOD buy their prints. All the prints are vintage or original. I always thought companies made their own prints so I was super interested in this process. Afterwards, we stopped by Chelsea Market to wait for our tour of Google. I got a really inspirational pouch to remind myself to stay strong! Touring google was really cool. After our really long day, we were all too tired to participate in the scavenger hunt back at LIU even though I was really looking forward to it.
Today marks day 4. After a rough night, we all had to wake up at 6:30 am to get on a bus to NYC by 7:45. Thank the heavens for coffee and Starbucks. Our first stop was IZOD. Surprisingly I was really intrigued by menswear and the design process. I wish I was creative enough to be a designer. It was cool to see how designers plan collections months in advance before selling them to companies like Macy’s and Kohls. Then we headed over to the Manhasset Americana for a quick tour. Being so close to high-end fashion was such a blessing. When we got back, we had a quick “sample” class taught by Cherir Serota. She was the co-founder of a maternal clothing line that became a million dollar business. Her words of advice inspired me to start making my own clothes and selling them on depop. My username is lifeingrey if you want to check me out! That night there was a party in the commons center. There were arcade games, cotton candy and popcorn, and karaoke. We all had so much fun on our last night together.
Friday we presented our final projects. Everyone was so creative and did a really good job. We had a quick farewell group in the boutique and then we went our separate ways. That concludes my travel diary! Hope you guys enjoyed! Let me know if I should do this again or possibly make a travel diary video for my next adventure!
